Understanding Server Based Slots Machines
Although the concept and testing was done in 2007, the idea of server based Slots machines being used commercially at casinos has just started to be more realistic in late 2009. Server based Slots machines are considered the future of Slots, although there are also concerns surrounding the use of these machines.

Server based Slots machines is basically similar to the current video Slots, but instead of hosting the game inside the Slots machine a server is used. The game terminals, or the Slots machines, are actually thin clients streaming different variations of Slots from the server. This may be the future of Slots indeed, since casinos don’t have to worry about replacing outdated or less popular Slots machines ever again; all they would have to do is change the settings from the control server in a matter of seconds. With this concept, casino management can also change denominations, bonus payouts and promotions from the server.
Server based Slots machines also raise concerns. Players are worrying about the possibility of payout ratios and other settings being changed by casino managements during different times. They don’t have the ability to do so until now, but server based Slots machines give them just the controls they need. It is not impossible to change the client terminal’s payout ratio on the fly, since everything can be done easily from the server.
Despite the pros and cons, server based Slots machines is a great advancement for Slots. Players will surely see more variations and additional features such as the ones they find at online casinos.
