Roulette table layout
When you play online roulette you make bets by placing your betting chips on a virtual version of the ‘layout’. In real live roulette as played at a casino the ‘layout’ is a cloth covered area which is marked with the numbers colours of the roulette wheel, and like the virtual version, it is laid out in a 3 by 12 matrix with additional areas for making other bets.
There are minor differences between the American game which has a double zero and the European game which has only a single zero. In both games the zero position lies at the head of the first row of three numbers.
The numbers from 1 to 36 are sequential and appear in rows of three (each square is marked in the colour of the appropriate number). The matrix is subdivided into three blocks of 3 by four arrays which contain the numbers 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 36. Bets can be made on these blocks of 12 by placing chips in bakes which are marked on their sides.
There are also places on the layout to make bats on either red or black, on even and odd numbers, and on 1 to 18 or 19 the 36 (high or low). There are also squares at the bottom of each column of 12 numbers for placing bets on the whole column.
There are some variations in the layouts between different casinos, but they all include all of the above though sometimes the numbers occupy a central position with the additional betting areas positioned on either side, or sometimes all the additional betting positions appear on just one side of the main array; the latter tens to be more popular at online casinos as it is a little easier to understand and a little more intuitive.
Remember that you can bet of pairs of numbers by placing your chips on the intersections between the numbers, and on four numbers by placing your chips on the node point that is common to all of the four numbers.
